What my gp told me

Post by Crz7n3 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 12:36 pm

Saw my gp today for usual checkup and pap smear.
I told her i was still breastfeeding my 13 month old.
She said to me that there is nothing nutritional in my breastmilk for a child that old and that my child can have 4 cups of cows milk or if I want to give her formula to follow the instructions.
I didn't ask her opinion on whether I should wean or not. I don't agree with her opinion in fact I think she's wrong. I was just surprised to hear her say that. Anyone else experience this?

Hi
I've just read your post. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon to hear this opinion from a medical professional. They have 2, maybe 3 hours maximum, of breastfeeding education in their initial training and unless they follow up with professional development that will remain the extent of their breastfeeding information. It's a big problem in many first world countries. The Australian infant feeding guidelines are in conflict with the WHO guidelines which recommend breastfeeding until 2yo and beyond, as long as the mother and her child wish.
