Pump purchase

Post by Penguin » Fri Dec 05, 2014 5:55 pm

I think I want an Ameda purely yours, mostly because I want a closed system and also because I'm cranky with Medela.

Basic or ultra?

I've got a year off work, so I'll probably be pumping less than I did with DD, at least while out and about. However, I've offered to donate too so probably still pumping at least daily but at home.

Is a tote bag and a cool bag really worth $100?

so, thoughts?

I'd probably not get anything until I really knew if and how much I was going to use it. A manual pump or hand expression is probably enough for emergency use. I expressed for my older two from time to time, but I never expressed a drop second time around.

Does the tote bag match your shoes?

No, I def want a pump. I pumped quite a bit with DD even before I went back to work, and I'm not hand expressing for donations.

In my opinion, the tote bag is ridiculously large and the cool bag could be replaced by any other for less $.
When I say ridiculously large, that is from the perspective of someone who likes small handbags. I wouldn't use it as my handbag so it is way too big for carrying a pump and bottles around.

The only advantage with handbag is it did fit all pump stuff in, plus a bit of my own stuff. But it's huge, stiff and bulky. I wouldn't use it afterwards for sure. But you'd probably do just as well with a backpack or other carry bag.

I was very happy with the pump itself. Had never used ameda before and was impressed.

Best pump ever ! I expressed for over 2 years with one of those (actually two). I had the backpack but I can't see much point in the cool bag, I bet you already have one :) The thing about the tote/backpack is they are specifically designed to fit the pump in, and keep it save. At least I think the tote is. Actually, buy the basic one and I'll send you my backpack for the cost of postage. its just cluttering up my house, and I'm NOT having any more kids. I would even send you the pump, but that would contravene ABA Policy.

So the internet tells me that any standard sized bottles fit the ameda pump - is that true?

Yes, think that's so. Certainly used some medela bottles, and you can use some generic bottles with medela pumps.
