Sore Boobs!

Post by MamaMagoO? » Thu Apr 30, 2015 10:56 am

I really wasn't sure where to put this post so just trying here. I have really sore boobs. They've been like this for a few days, maybe a week. Based on some reading I've done I suspect its due to increasing oestrogen levels caused by decreasing lactation as DD is dropping her bedtime feed which means she is pretty much down to one feed a day.... although come to think of it she did have a bedtime feed last night but hasn't had a morning feed this morning so that might explain why they are particularly sore today.... No lumps or bumps but my bras all feel tight and uncomfortable. I'm also experiencing some other symptoms of increased oestrogen; increased vaginal mucus and pimples

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing as the result of weaning??

Certainly hope not. I have an IUD so it would be very bad news indeed :?

They have been deflating up until now. The tight bras is a bit weird. Just last week I was annoyed that my bras all seemed too big. But according to the info sheet I found on a women's hospital website (so I'm assuming its a reliable source) :
The most common hormonal breast soreness comes from an increase in the level of oestrogen before a period. This causes milk ducts and glands to swell, trapping fluid in the breasts. Many women have tenderness or pain in the lead-up to a period, and sometimes right through it.
I haven't really had a period since before DD was conceived but maybe that's about to change. Also know that lactating women have lower levels of oestrogen so I'm assuming that by reducing the amount of lactation the amount of oestrogen could increase which could cause these sore breast symptoms.

The really good news is the same info sheet says:
For many women, the biggest concern about breast soreness is that it is a sign of cancer; however, breast soreness is not often associated with cancer and it does not put you at any increased risk of breast cancer.
I was pleased to read that.

I'm thinking AF might be on the way. I'm also have a nagging ache in my lower back which was often a pre-menstral symptom with me. Feel blergh :?

I was thinking hormonal too - but more on the AF side rather than the other. If you've had the IUD in and minimal AF since DD might be just that time of month joy

even if you don't get af it could be the sign your body is trying to create a bit of a cycle again, I had all those symptoms on and off for months and then bam it just took dropping 1 feed for 3 days and af was back

I had mastitis when mrs mops was about three - can't really remember any change in feeding (and she is still going two years later  ) but I was really run down, stressed, tired. Hope it feels better soon, but keep an eye out for flu like symptoms.
It's OK Pluto, I'm not a planet either

Thanks for your input ladies. Today I feel fine. No boob pain, no backache and no AF. I'm tired but otherwise good. Bit weird but at least that probably means its not mastitis and I don't need to POAS. Must be just crazy hormones :?
