We've weaned

How, when and why to introduce foods other than breastmilk

We've weaned

Postby Yankee » Thu Oct 30, 2014 6:35 pm

I think it's over. For those who've been following my journey, we had a very rocky start to breastfeeding. I was happy I persisted although I didn't see myself going much beyond 12 months. And around 12 months I started feeling really conflicted, ready to stop but DH wanting me to keep going. The compromise was to keep the last feed of the day until January when I'm going to a conference.

Well it turns out DD had other plans. Last night she flat out refused the feed, nipped me, bucked and cried, but it was a really off night for her so I thought it might be a fluke. Tonight was a nice normal evening, but again no interest at all in milk. To be honest I'm pretty sure there hasn't been much milk in a while, I haven't really heard her swallow in a few weeks, so I'm not surprised.

It's a bit sad but I'm also happy, I've been ready for this for a little while. Last night's refusal was tough because it was such a surprise, I burst into tears when I called up DH for help with the bath and told him what happened. But tonight I'm more at peace with it.

So this is the end of the road for me, because we're not planning on having any more kids. I plan on sticking around here though, you all are a great source of collective parenting wisdom that I really appreciate!

Congratulations on your journey!!!! Wow, what a roller coaster of 12 months you have had.Thank you for all the support you have offered me. Go gently, the weaning hormones are horrid. Your whole breastfeeding journey sounds incredible! Well done, and I'm glad you have been able to wean in a mutually acceptable way.
Please do stick around. Your comments are thoughtful and you're good at bringing up other possible POVs.

Big Hugs Yankee. Weaning is kind of sad even when we're ready for it. It's OK to feel sad and happy at the same time. Just go with the flow. Congratulations on what sounds like it was an incredible journey.
