When did you start offering solids before BF?

How, when and why to introduce foods other than breastmilk

Thanks for all the replies! It really has helped me! I must say I have been heading in the "eat at meal times, demand BF for the rest" direction, but wasn't sure if that would decrease his milk intake or not! I'm going to give it a go! :)

My bubs is 7 months and has her solids after bf except has always had her evening solids with her sibling at 530 and then a breast feed around 630..... Supply is low at night so think she still takes it all regardless of having a meal before hand.

I was paranoid about supply, so always offered milk before solids right up until DD was probably about 12 months or so. Past that point, I did much as others have said - treated meals as meals, and just bf on demand whenever else. Some days that means DD (now 19 months) feeds eleventy-billion times, before and after meals, overnight, etc. - and some days that means she only feeds 5-6 times. All seems to even out in the end. :)
