Sore guts?

How, when and why to introduce foods other than breastmilk

Sore guts?

C keeps screaming and cranking and jerking about like she can't get a fart out. Woke up a bajillion times last night. Do you think it might be solids-related?

Possibly. My kids both had lots of tummy aches and really disturbed sleep when they first started solids. Which is why I find it so strange that encouraging more sleep is one of the reasons given for starting early. Always made mine much worse. It makes sense that it could take a little while to get used to digesting something other then breastmilk.

Is she constipated? That's what it was with mine.

Mmm, my first thought was maybe constipation, but guess depends what she's started eating? Or, as Parla suggested, it can take time to,get used to solids. Or I think there's a wonder week now, or....or....or....

No help, am I!?

Could be... What have you fed her so far? Is she ingesting much? Is she having normal bowel movements? DD had a terrible time with constipation when she first started solids. I guess you'll know from DD2's next bowel motion whether she's having problems in that regard or not.

Poo has def changed. Mum changed her Sat morning and said it was green and different, same thing yesterday arvo. Normal looking poo overnight and I think one or two normal looking poos today (can't remember)

Apple, banana, rice rusk, biscuit.

Should I stop throwing food at her?

You could always stop for a few days and see if things improve, then slowly reintroduce things one at a time to see if it's anything specific or just food in general.

I'd stop or slow right down on the food for a few days. Could be coincidence with solids, or has she had her jabs this week?

Whatever the cause, mummy milk is going to be the best thing for it. Have you tried bicycling the leg, or an EC hold to help her get things moving? Warm bath, tummy massage, clean growsuit?

True - we had to keep ours in the cupboard and ration Mrs Moops to one per day.

It was any food at all for mine. I blamed the rice cereal with Little Magoo but Miss M was BLW all the way and she became constipated from the moment she ingested the tiniest bit of food. I think some kids are just ultra sensitive to that change. It reminds me of your post from last week, up until now absolutely everything that has gone into building every cell in her body has come from you. Now, suddenly you've introduced something alien into the system. You can see how that might send the digestive system into a bit of a tizz.

I found that slowing right down for a little while helped a bit. Maybe stopping all together would have been better but it was hard as she was enjoying it so much. But I seem to think it took months to get back to something resembling normal again... Not that she was in pain/constipated the whole time but she sleep went to crap and took ages to improve.

As MW said though breastmilk will be the best thing for it.
