REALLY painful let down

Postby Vahvempi » Mon Jun 27, 2016 10:19 pm

I swear I have sought more BF counselling and information with this baby than all of the others combined! !

Anyway, when I get a let down, my whole entire breast REALLY hurts. Why?? Should I worry??

Oh Hun - that is the pits. Sometimes really forceful letdown can be painful, especially if bubs then pulls away and stops removing the milk. Does that sound like a possibility?

Have your used out thrush and other infections? Any signs of nipple damage?

I had really painful let-downs with DD. It was mostly in my nipple that seemed to go into a bit of a spasm with the let down but I think my whole breast was a bit painful (was a while ago now). Anyway it didn't last. Eventually the pain settled down. Again I can't remember how long it took.

Do you have the pain with every let down or just the first. It was just the first for me and once that passed the rest of the feed was pain free. I agree that it might b worth checking for infection especially if the pain persists beyond the first let-down.

Thanks ladies..

baby doesn't pull off during feeding, so that's not it.
I hadn't even thought of thrush etc. Might look into that.
Nipples are good now....

it's only painful during 1st let down. Might have a chat to LC friend.

Thanks again
