"Hooting" noise

Postby mishmash » Sat Jul 04, 2015 11:31 pm

Hi all,

I have a 4 day old baby boy who has been making a hooting or squeaking noise whilst feeding, as well as after. Has anyone else experienced the same thing and know what it could be related to?

Just worried it may be an airway issue?

Hmm, I've not heard of that before. If you think it might be a breathing issue, could you call the hospital (if you gave birth in a hospital)? or get some medical advice?
Congratulations on your little one!

Hi mishmash, congratulations on the arrival of your little boy.

Some babies are surprisingly noisy feeders and it can be normal. If you are concerned about it being an airway issue, is there someone locally who could actually observe a feed to give you an opinion? Maybe a nurse or GP if you're heading in for a check up soon, or a maternal/child health nurse (they're called different things in different states). You could also try to find your local ABA group using the postcode search here https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/contacts/groups.

Just wondering if he seems otherwise comfortable when breastfeeding?

Have you tried different positions to see if that makes it better or worse, eg a cradle hold where baby is lying horizontally in your arms across your tummy, and then maybe with you leaning back on a chair or cushions and baby more upright?
