Searing pain on latching using nipple shields

Post by Jelica14 » Sat Dec 24, 2016 5:04 pm

Hi everyone,

First time posting here just after some advice.

My little one is 2 weeks 1 day today, and from birth I have had to use nipple shields due to inverted nipples. I always had a small amount of pain upon baby latching however the last 2 days it has become so much worse to the point I am in tears as baby is latching. After milk starts to flow the pain almost disappears. I want to breastfeed so bad but the pain is unbearable each time. Does anyone know what this could be from?
Any advice would be great thankyou

Hi Jelica14 and welcome to the forum!

Congratulations on the birth of your baby :) The pain sounds really difficult for you. There could be a few things going on. For tailored advice from the ABA trained breastfeeding counsellors, call 1800 686 268 or if you are a member, you can access email counselling.

Sorry that I don't have any other advice, but there might be others that come along that do. Let us know how you go :)
