Ironing tea towels

Post by Penguin » Wed Dec 21, 2016 8:58 pm

DD1's school did one of those fundraisers where each kid draws a picture of themselves and they all get printed on a linen teatowel with their names. I bought a bunch earlier in the year for Christmas presents for grandparents etc. I just got an email from my grandma telling me where she had put the photos we gave her and how much she loved the tea towel and that the tea towel had already been washed and ironed and was ready to be used. She then proceeded to tell me how busy she was before she goes away etc. LOL. We clearly have different priorities before we go away.

I read the title and thought - wow, Penguin sure has too much spare time.

But I wonder whether the picture looks a lot better when it is ironed? I did kids picture tea towels for family a few years ago and my aunt keeps hers on the oven, and I'm pretty sure it is never used, but kept there as a decorative thing. (She might be getting it out specially just when we come over?)

My mum used to get me to iron all the flat things when I was a kid - I like the smell of ironed things and I still love having an ironed pillowcase at mum's when I sleep there. But not enough to iron my own pillowcases!

I must confess that I iron the linen and most of the cotton tea towels.......also do the pillow cases and the tops of the flat sheets (the part that folds over).....i do know I'm crazy, but I like to see them looking all beautifully pressed.....

My Mum also taught me to iron with tea towels, hankies and pillow slips. My kids don't know how to iron, they don't even realise it is part of the washing, they think it is something you only do if you sew or knit :)

I never iron.
Anything.
Expect for those little plastic beads the kids make pictures out of and stick together when you iron.
And when I sew.
I don't sew much.

It is that thing your kids sometimes find in the back of the laundry cupboard and use as a pretend sailboat down the hallway?
