Crochet help please :)

Post by Merry » Tue Jul 12, 2016 12:50 am

Hey all I'm wanting to make a little snail from a pattern that's been translated from Dutch but I'm confused lol. I guess maybe it's been too long since I've followed a pattern but I feel like something is wrong with this first bit, what do you think?

Crochet 2ch
1.6sc in the last chain from the hook
2. 2sc in each sc, repeat (12sc)
3. 1sc, 2sc in the next sc, repeat (18sc)
4. 2sc, 2sc in the next sc, repeat (24sc)

The amounts at the end are totally different to what I get with what I think they are telling me to do lol. Help! :)

The last instruction means to do 2 Sc in separate stitches, then 2sc in the next Sc. You only want to do 6 increases.
Does the rest of the pattern make sense? A snail sounds very cute! Would love to see ite finished :-)

Also sc means different things to different people. US and UK notation is different, so it may be worth assuming it is US notation in which case it would be DC in each stitch. Also looks like each round is actually two rounds, so round 1 is basically start and make 6 stitches, round 2 is make that into 12, then run 3 is one stitch in each stitch, still 12 stitches, round 4 is jump up to 18 stitches, round 5 is just 18 stitches then round 4 is increase to 24 stitches, and round 5 just straight 24 stitches. Should be flat and simple, because to make a proper circle you need to double the number of stitches every time you double the number of rounds. So rows 2, 4, 16, 32 are double, but it bunches up so you spread it out a bit, which is why they are adding 6 stitches every second row (because you start with 6 stitches)

Don't know if that clears it up or just muddies the water, but it does make sense to me :)

I just realised my post was wrong. :( Sorry if I confused you.

I read it as
1.6sc in the last chain from the hook
2. 2sc in each sc, repeat (12sc)
3. *1sc in next sc, 2sc in the next sc,* repeat (18sc)
4. *1sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2sc in the next sc,* repeat (24sc)

I would still start with a magic loop though, and I would mark the first or last stitch of each round or I would get confused (as if I wasn't already) Sounds like fun though.

Yay great news :) I'll wait patiently for a photo, or not whichever.

Although, if you reply with full editor, there is an option to upload attachments at the bottom of the screen. The only time I tried it the attachment was huge, but it does work.

Crochet is fun isn't it? I love that it finishes fairly quickly, that said I enjoy knitting too as crochet is yarn hungry :)
