Re: The 2017 declutter thread
I saw a meme doing the rounds along the lines of "your kids are beautifully dressed in new clothes and you're still wearing your tatty maternity underwear". This resonated deeply so I've chucked a bag of underwear (and plan to stock up in the UK where it's cheaper)!

Re: The 2017 declutter thread
Two bags of cloth nappies gone and roughly six bags of craft supplies we have never used and would irritate me to have floating around (cardboard) chucked!
Total = 34
As a side note, my husband suggested we chuck out 2/3 of our belongings as "we own too much" (from the man who couldn't see the point of decluttering two years ago).
I think he might have been flirting with me. #marriageseductiontechniques #konmarryme

Re: The 2017 declutter thread
Got rid of a large-ish cabinet from the dining room, on Freecycle this week. Delighted to have a bit of extra space, and it had been empty for a while. I had thought to sell it but had no interest. On Freecycle it was gone withing 30 minutes and I had about 20 enquiries. A very happy teenager is going to use it in her room.
So now I need some help and perspective on something. 15 years ago DH and I bought a painting at a community art show. Years later our tastes have changed and I'd like to use the space for something else. Also, I moved my TV and now the painting is in my line of sight all the time. Complicating factors. It was painted by an artist who used to be the MIL of someone we know (didn't know that when we bought it, but when we found out thought it was a nice touch). The marriage ended badly and I don't have good feelings towards the artist anymore. I just don't want to see her again.
The painting might be worth what we paid, maybe a little more (we are talking in the $300-$800 range based on what her art sells for now - thanks internet).
But sending a painting to the op shop feels different to giving away furniture or old books. I suspect one of my quilts has been sent to the opshop and it makes me sad.
Any ideas how to unburden myself of this dilemma? Maybe I should take it as a sign that I watch too much TV?!

Unless you're desperate for the cash, I'd do whatever will get rid of it in the least emotional / least stress way. Is that selling it on eBay? Donating it to some community org to use or raffle off?Mummy woo! wrote:Got rid of a large-ish cabinet from the dining room, on Freecycle this week. Don't really need the cash and no idea what it is worth anyway. Least stress would be op shop. I might ask DH what he thinks - he might be prepared to deal with her.

Re: The 2017 declutter thread
One bag of outgrown clothes to a friend a while ago =54 bags
Re: The 2017 declutter thread
I'm clearing out the hall cupboard as part of a looong process to get the spare room ready for the kids to get their own rooms. So, i can add 5 bags of rubbish to my list and when i get to the op shop....10 bags of clothes and a couple if blankets.
