EWCM and breastfeeding

Post by Snake Hips Mcroy » Sat May 17, 2014 7:04 pm

Disclaimer: I'm not ttc. In fact, trying not to conceive but just don't feel like going on hormonal contraception til my baby is a bit older... So in reality that means I'm relying on breastfeeding as contraception - I think I'm a pretty good candidate. My period didn't return til 21 months after ds1, and I practice all the things in the list for 'ecological breastfeeding' (no bottles/dummies, no feeding schedule, bed sharing, no solids etc etc).

But... Yesterday I had really fertile feeling EWCM. No other symptoms (in the past, I have had cramping at ovulation). What hormone causes EWCM? Does it mean my fertility is returning earlier this time or could it just be a hormonal fluctuation?
DS1 - born May 2011, breastfed for 26 months
DS2 - born Dec 2013, breastfeeding like a champ

Sooo ... my advice would be, treat it as if you're about to ovulate (abstinence? barrier of choice?). (DS2 and DD are 17 mos apart. I don't recommend it. )

No idea, sorry. Perhaps BiN's advice is sound.
But don't take contraception advice from me!

Yeah, I'd probably be careful in the next little while. And maybe start charting you temp to see what's going on?

Follow the rules :) I have two from not following the rules. If you think you have fertile mucus then abstain. I managed to predict the return of AF to the day after DD2 and DS2 as the mucus was so clear and obvious. Other than that, I did have a number of almost mucus that I thought were the return, but when it really came back I knew the others had been pretend. Still better safe than too close together.
