help. Weird OPK

Post by Andypandy » Fri May 09, 2014 11:47 am

So AF was due yesterday. I accidentally took an OPK instead of the HPT and I have no hpt on me.

Anyway, the opk has 2 matching dark lines. Am I ovulating???? I swear I ov'd 15 days ago, judging by my CM.

Do you think I am releasing another egg?

Help!

I have no idea, have tried to find info, but all says it should go down. However it may go down slowly and still give positive

Fingers crossed for you!

Please indulge me while I recount a story...

A few years ago someone on the forum sent me some LH test strips and some hcG test strips. I used an LH strip and it was positive. "Woohoo", I thought, "ovulation is imminent". The next day I used another LH strip, with the same result from the strip and the same thoughts from me. And then the next day...same result. "Hmmmm", I thought. Surely the strips couldn't be detecting an LH surge on so many consecutive days. So, I search engined and discovered that LH strips can also detect hcG. So then I used an hcG strip and received a positive result. Eight months later our lovely baby was born.

Obviously your situation might be totally different. Perhaps it isn't hcG that your LH strips are detecting. But it's an interesting story, don't you think..? When can you get hold of an hcG test?

I think matching is still negative. I think for opk the test line has to be darker than the comparison line. From memory mine went darker for 2 days and then took a while to drop down and never disappeared entirely
I had read about them picking up hcg too and tried with left over strips when I was about 3mths preggers. Wow that test line was super dark by that stage!

I've never used them, but I think that some women some cycles get and oestrogen surge before AF which can register on the OPK but you're not ovulating. If I had to guess I would say if you got a positive on the ovulation test at the end of your cycle then AF is probably imminent :( but I would be delighted to be wrong! I'm not sure about this, I just saw it mentioned several times on the interwebz, so yanno - no real reliability!
