low AMH & breastfeeding toddler

Postby Sarah1986 » Wed Nov 20, 2013 8:18 pm

My toddler is 2 years, 4 months and breastfeeds 2-3 times a day (more on weekends) - big feeds in the morning, at bed time and usually late afternoon when I get home from work. My periods returned when baby was 4 months old, but I didn't stop night feeds till she was +1years.

I'm just had my AMH levels tested and they have fallen from ~10 just before conceiving my DD to <3 - waaaay low

My GP basically said that I need to go visit an IVF clinic ASAP - I'm 35 years and with such a low AMH, she recommended that I immediately start ovulation tracking.

So my question is - does breastfeeding affect AMH levels? Is continuing breastfeeding likely to be affecting my fertility?

I'm reluctant to stop breastfeeding but def want baby #2.

I've got nothing to give you but a welcome to the forum (Hi!) and to say that there is a podcast? I think about breastfeeding and fertility/ IVF . I don't know where it is though, I'll get back to you asap.

Podcast summary

Postby Sarah1986 » Fri Nov 29, 2013 7:04 pm

Hi, I've listened to the podcast - its ok but its a bit anecdotal and generalist...I.e breastfeeding produces prolactin, prolactin suppresses fertility, all women react differently, depends if you've got to take fertility drugs & age of child.

Sooo, still searching. Going to see FS in a week or so, I'll post their response.

Thanks
