Nice things to do for oneself

Sexual, physical and/or emotional abuse can unfortunately enter our lives at any time. Many people suffered as a child, for others the abuse only enters their lives as adults. Sometimes it is our loved ones suffering. Often pregnancy or the birth of a child can trigger these events. Substance abuse often plays a part. Your situation may be such that you need to talk to your health professional, or the police, but just telling someone who will listen can be helpful. We are not trained experts in this area of life, but we offer this forum as a supportive environment for you if and whenever you need it. No matter whether the abuse is new to your life, if it happened years ago, or has been ongoing - we are here to listen. *Please remember this is a public forum when posting details about yourself and your situation.

Nice things to do for oneself

Post by Penguin » Sat Jan 16, 2016 7:05 pm

Ok all, I'm crowdsourcing my homework once again.

I need to come up with a list of nice things to do for myself. They can be small but I need to do something everyday  and I'm at a loss. Throw ideas at me.

Maybe don't aim too high. Look for little things? Craft for yourself, even if it was only 3 seconds? Enjoying a square of nice chocolate? Relishing a cup of tea when it hasn't gone cold?

How am I doing? Is it more a mindfulness thing, rather than ensuring you get an hour's quiet contemplation?

Sit outside quietly drinking one of those cups of tea.
Go for a short walk (like walk to get milk instead of drive)
You pick the story you read to your LO
Nice hand cream - take time to really massage it in for a few minutes - a nice smelling one from the supermarket needn't cost much more than sorbolene
DIsh up your dinner first and snaffle the good bits out of the salad :)
Choose peas instead of beans if you like peas best
Put your feet up while watching TV instead of trying to sort socks or 'get something done'

Are they the kinds of things you are looking for?
It's OK Pluto, I'm not a planet either

Glass of wine in a bubble bath with chocolate, a book and the door closed.

Cooking your favourite meal.

Catching up with a friend.

Cup of tea.

Painting your nails.

Stopping.

Listening to favourite songs / stuff from uni days usually cheers me up.

BC, what were your favourite things to do?

I have a list on the pantry door - DH brought it home from an appointment. Some of the ideas are a little lame, but happy to share it.

Dance around in a silly way to your favourite music (or without music!) for 5 minutes.
Just sit a look at the sky or the garden for five minutes outside
Read something, anything of your choice.
Put some nice quotes on your bedside table or wall in the bedroom and look at them every morning or before bed
