My go-to when I haven't had time to plan is a grab bag. Easy to put together, gets everyone involved and I don't have to talk very much! I did an early days the other week and from memory I put in:

Toy dad - role of partners, support, ways for partners to bond when they aren't feeding bub
Toy that looked like a grandma - support again, led to a discussion about unwanted/outdated advice and ways to manage that
Knitted breast - engorgement and other early days breast related things
Nappy - normal nappies, output, how to tell bub is getting enough
Breast pad
Phone - call helpline, friend, something to do while you're stuck on the couch
Helpline magnet - support
Little pack of tissues - talked about different emotions in the early days (this led to a really good discussion)
Tiny tums - showing how small little stomachs are, feeding frequency etc.

hope that helps :)

I almost always do a grab bag for Early Days - as well as the items tillygail mentioned, I often throw in a wrap/carrier (settling techniques, fourth trimester), a dummy and/or bottle (things that *might* interfere with bfing, but also can be useful in some cases - highlighting the importance of good info, support and advice), and an old terry flat nappy (catching a forceful letdown / leaking in the early days, used as a burp cloth for spewy babies - lends itself to "all babies experience a degree of reflux"/happy vs unhappy chuckers discussion.

Just wanted to say, I did this topic today, it is the fourth ever topic I have presented, I used the grab bag idea as you guys mentioned above, and it was AWESOME. After an hour and a half, we suddenly realised a lot of us needed to get going to other things. Thank you forum for more wonderful wisdom.
