Where is the green sheep?

Post by Oscar'smum » Sun Mar 23, 2014 8:59 am

Ok so are you in need of a laugh this
morning? If so here it comes!

Every night before he has his last feed
and falls asleep (usually on the boob) I
read Oscar a bed time story. Because my
new years resolution was to keep reading
him the same book until we
actually finish it (we're not talking 'War
and Peace' here it's just 'Where is the
green sheep?") we've been reading the
same book every night since January

So why don't we ever finish it? Because
half way through he starts getting fussy
and demanding to be fed. So I give up
and feed him and we never make it to the
end to find out where that
green sheep is!

So this morning after he had his
breakfast and was happily playing on the
floor in the bedroom and I was sitting on
the mattress I thought - now is the
perfect time to read to him because he's
not squirming in my lap waiting to be fed.
So I picked up the book and started
reading out loud...

From across the room he gives me a
beaming smile and in his haste to get to
me crawls over everything in his way,
climbs up onto the mattress and dives
into my lap, still with this joyous grin
painted on his face.

At this point I'm thinking "wow I'm such a
good mum and such a amazing teacher I
have a 9 month old who loves books
already! I should write articles and give
lectures about early literacy and how it's
possible to get a baby so excited about
reading!". Then...he turns in my lap,
swipes the book out of my hand and
starts head butting my chest demanding
to be fed.

So I give in and feed him. He takes two
sucks, looks at me like "why are you
feeding me now - I just ate all my fruit
and cereal" and crawls off to go play with
his toys again.

Which leaves me with the alarming
realisation that my son now associates
stories with boobs!!! He thinks "Once
upon a time" is a feeding cue!

So I am killing myself laughing imagining
him on the first day of prep...the teacher
pulls out "Where is the green sheep?' and
starts to read...Oscar breaks into a
beaming smile..walks over...sits in her
lap, unbuttons her shirt and latches
on...oh dear!

I think I will need to stop reading to him
for a while ;-)
