So, it seems I need to start tossing some food in C's direction.

I was pontificating on this - the entirety of her body used to be part of mine. All nine kilos of the atoms which now constitute her, used to be part of me. That's quite mindboggling.

Isn't it?!

I always really felt each of the three stages (pregnancy, ebf, fully weaned / complete physical separation). I get really excited by the weight gains at the moment because it's me giving her that. DH is a little more blasé about it.

What about the 50% of her DNA that comes from DH?

But I get your point. It's pretty amazing though isn't it?

And how did she suddenly get old enough to throw some food at???

But that was only the first lot. As in, the original 23 pieces. about 9.5*10^-12g, from memory (0.0000000000095 g ) . Every single copy of DH's DNA in every other cell is made up of nucleotides which used to be me (ie built with his instructions with materials from me). So she is (8500- 9.5*10^-12)/8500 me, that is 99.9999999999999% me by mass. So I'm calling the mass of her that's not post-me (statistically) insignificant

And how did she suddenly get old enough to throw some food at???
No. freaking. idea.

Imagine I make you a meal and drop it off to you with the recipe. You eat the meal I made you and decide that you like it so much it's all you're going to make for the next year. Even though you are following my recipe, you are the one buying the ingredients and doing the cooking every night for the next year. So even though I actually made you one meal and the recipe, you have made 364 meals, so my one meal is such a small amount of food in comparison to the total food for the year that it can be considered the same as zero. The substantial part of my contribution to your dinners was the recipe, not the actual ingredients in one meal, and the recie doesn't contribute to the mass .

Completely agree that the overwhelming majority of the *energy* going into this bub comes from you. Dads put in info, and, if we're lucky, support.

As for throwing food, may I suggest baby-led weaning? Better'n'sliced bread by a very long shot...

I remember having a little moment the first time we gave Oobiwoo some medication - that was the first time he had anything go in his mouth that wasn't directly from me (about three months old I think). It is mind blowing and mums are awesome.
It's OK Pluto, I'm not a planet either

19 days and counting for us. Well, 19 days until DS starts solids. Probably 9 months until he's anywhere near 9 kilos.

Funny, I visualised it as Penguin doing the throwing of food (onto a tray near her baby of course) which is classic baby-led solids for a second or subsequent baby ;)

Sounds similar to when I serve up dinner for DH too. :D
