Who wants to play? Labour Game updates pg10

Post by athome » Sun Mar 25, 2012 1:05 pm

Who wants to play a labour game ? Well a fun one without actually feeling the contractions :D !!

I put this together for preggy mums to help get things straight in their minds and to start them talking with their birth partners. It follows some fairly common scenarios and has some "twists" to get you thinking. I give you a scenario and you choose the option you want to explore.
Anyway "put your hand up" if you want to jump in and have a go ?

Ill post the first question now to give you an idea of what to expect and let me know the option you choose ! Its keeps going from there until "your babe is born" !

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have reached full term and you notice subtle cramps that seem to last for about 15 seconds each. They don’t seem to be coming in any regular pattern but you notice about 4 in an hour period.
Do you –
1. Decide to lie down and get some rest
2. Hurry about getting the washing folded and housework done
3. Go for a Walk
4. Go to Hospital

1. Lie down and rest (after nagging someone else to do the washing).

I'll play. I hd my booking in appt on Thursday which has given me some things to think about.

I would choose 4 because I've got an hour and a half drive. Hopefully they'd send me home and i could go to my parents house then the wondering when i should go to would be over.

I'll play

If it was just in the course of the day I would select #2
(but if it was the late evening middle of the night I would select #1)

OK
Cap AP MM

You decide to lie down and rest for a while but the contractions become stronger making it hard to relax. You decide to get up and when you do you notice they are now becoming more frequent in fact they are coming every 10 mins and lasting 30 seconds.

Do you -

1) Decide to hop in the bath and relax for a while
2) Try to have something light to eat and pack your bags into the car
3) Listen to some music and ask your partner for a massage
4) Go to Hospital

You decide to head into hospital and on arrival they admit you to their assessment unit. You lie down on the bed and they place a strap on your tummy to monitor babys heartrate and your contractions. You are asked to push a button each time you feel a contraction. You also agree to have a vaginal examination to see if you have dilated. The examination reveals you have dilated 2cm and your baby is well with a strong heartbeat. Your contractions are coming often but not in a regular sequence.

You are given the option to
1) stay and be monitored every few hours
2) Go home and come back when the contractions become more regular
3) go for a walk to see if you can get things moving

You managed to get everything finished and even forget about timing the contractions. They are still gentle and you feel like they are getting further apart.
Do you
1) Take a bath
2) go for a walk
3) Try to rest / sleep
4) Have something to eat and drink

What she said.

(Although i had contractions 10 mins apart for 2 days before they became regular, so in reality i would probably go on the forum and moan about it).

I'm fully expecting my answer to most of these questions will be "Call my doula and talk it through with her to decide".

Helping decide when it is time to go to the hospital is one of the main things I want her for (in the early stages at least).

This is so cool, its like a practice run. Thanks athome! And i feel excited too, my baby is on the way!

I think I would choose 2) go back to my parents place and try and rest. I like the idea of walking but I think it would just exhaust me.

Oh, can I jump in now? I've gone to the hospital, and then I'm super dooper excited at being 2cm (this is the fastest labour I've ever had).

Now I'm staying at the hospital doing 1 and 3. (As in I'm happy to be monitoed every few hours, but I'm walking and staying active while I'm there.)

Can't believe I'm 2cm already! :)

Jumping in too! I would lie down and rest for sure. I do like rest :) if the contractions then got stronger that would be spot on for me. I would then get in the bath. I have an awesome bath. What next? :)
Allons-y!
