HG and early induction

HG and early induction

Post by AussieBritLu » Thu Mar 31, 2016 7:46 pm

I really think that women who suffer with HG should (if they want it of course) be allowed to have an early induction if they want (from 38 weeks) as long as all else is going well with bub.

I don't really think they really understand that another 2 possibly 4 weeks of puking is enjoyable.

Hugs ABL, I can't even being to imagine. :(
I do remember Penguin going through similar thoughts at the end of her most recent pregnancy.

Yup. And I very nearly did. For me it was an option as far as hospital protocol etc was concerned. Hugs darling. Don't be afraid to ask for it if that's what you want. Can DH or someone advocate for you if needed?

I've hinted on several occasions...said I've had enough etc too but it just gets kinda laughed at....maybe if my blood test results come back with problems then they might change their mind?

If you want it, stop hinting and start demanding. IME hinting ain't gonna get you squat. If they are reluctant, ask them to prove to you why it can't be done. As long as you're happy to accept the risks of the induction, then I think you should be able to get it. Even if you have to jump through the hoops and get the mental health team involved or whatever. At one stage I scored some huge huge number on the Edinburgh scale - if you're the same you could use that as a result to help your cause. Can you take DH or someone with you to the appt to fight for you if needed?

My reasoning was that it was always a balance between baby and me. I didn't want to be pregnant anymore at 30 weeks, but I wasn't going to ask/ insist on an induction there because the consequences of that for the baby would be far worse than the consequences for me. There's a tipping point though, where the consequences for the baby are less than the consequences/ harm to you of continuing. I reached that point, certainly. If that point is 38 weeks for you, then say that. I really hope you get a reasonable and compassionate HP. (If it were me I would insist on it if that's what you want and shift the onus onto them to explain why it can't be done, rather than you proving why it could be done. Keep saying 'but why can't you do that? But what are the risks/ harm of continuing the kregnancy?)

Hugs darling. I'm not trying to tell you what to do- you do whatever you want- just thinking if done phrases which may (or may not) be helpful. Xxxx

All 4 of mine were inductions. DS1, was failing to grow. DD1, irritable uterus and irritable bladder. DS2, epilepsy and the irritable bladder and irritable uterus. DD2, my ob wanted a controlled environment because of the seizures I suffered whilst in labour with DS2.

You can ask for in induction on medical grounds, so go ahead.
Me: 38
DH: 38
DS1: 11.5 bf for 6 weeks
DD1: 8.5 bf for 13 weeks
DS2: 6.5 bf for 26 months
DD2: 4 bf for 3 yrs and 2 weeks

Could you write down some points to take with you to refer to if you get flustered?
If you do get flustered don't be afraid to ask for a minute to collect your thoughts.

Something else that may work if you need it if you feel like you're being bullied or not listened to us to say you feel intimidated and you request to see a social worker or a patient advocate. If they say no ask them to refuse your request in writing do you can escalate the complaint.
