Grammar nerds!!

Post by Esther » Wed Mar 08, 2017 1:55 pm

Do I do my violin practise? Or practice? Do I use practise parts (photocopies of parts -shh!) or practice parts?

I'm using practise for both. But am I correct? Or misguided?

'Practice' is a noun. 'Practise' is a verb. During violin practice you practise your music. I'd suggest the photocopies (ooooh er) could be either - parts for practising or parts that are used in practice.

But google tells me that the americans use 'practice' for both :)

Thanks Mummy woo! Quick reply too...

Ok. I've established that as a professional violinist I can count to 4, mostly accurately, and have dodgy grasp of grammar as it applies to my instrument practice

I've always used practise lol I think...then again it could have been practice.

I've always spelt definately incorrectly too apparently.

Well there you go. I always just used practice, thinking it was one of those American vs Aussie / UK spelling things. I wonder if license / licence is the same. Off to Google .....

My year 9 science teacher was a wonderful lady. I still hear her voice ringing in my ears when I spell "separate"...
