Favourite binge watches

Post by Mummy woo! » Tue Nov 03, 2015 7:06 pm

So with the advent of NBN and TV streaming I have become an inveterate binge-watcher. Although it started with DVDs from the library before we had the downloadable content. I'm concerned I might be missing something awesome so here is what I have watched. If you're after recommendations I have only put the things I liked enough to binge! What would you recommend I try next?
Vikings
The wire
House of Cards
Narcos
Orange is the new Black
Marco Polo
The Killing
Something with Gillian Anderson chasing a mass murderer in Ireland
Just watching 'Rita' now - it is Danish with subtitles so I need easy knitting :-D Also making me want to move to Denmark for its pedagogical approach which looks pretty good on the TV :lol:

Any suggestions?

My guilty pleasure was 'Outlander' but it's very polarising, people either loved or hated it and having read the books or not seems to make a big difference. I've enjoyed Vikings and am looking forward to Orange is the new Black when I get time so it might be a match for you.

Oh, and edited to add, 'the walking dead' is supposed to be all that and a bag of chips but I have seen one episode and it didn't do it for me.

It really comes down to what you like to watch...I'm not really into sci-fi/alien invasion things but DH is so we watched falling skies (I was mainly eyeing off Noah wyle though.....as I'm a huge ER fan ... I have all 15 seasons on DVD but some are no longer working thanks to DS getting to them and wrecking them)
I'm into ncis and jag....but again we have them on DVD rather than streaming.

Was the Gillian Anderson one "The Fall"?

Others I/we watch that might fit with the above include:

* Downton Abbey
* Suits
* Outlander
* The Knick
* Call the midwife
* Scott and Bailey
* The Crimson Field - I'm so disappointed the BBC didn't renew to make more of this series
* The Game
* Wolf Hall
* Dexter

I just did my second session of binge watching Canberra al desko. Useful if your life really only lets you watch things which are several minutes long.

Watching Inside Amy Shumer on DVD at the moment. So so so very hilarious.

If you like sci fi, Firefly is about the most feminist series I've ever seen and so much fun.

Just finished season one of 'prisoners of war' which is the original Israeli series upon which 'Homeland' is based. Much better - I liked Homeland but it was kind of implausible!

Jane the Virgin anyone? So delightfully dramatic (based on the story of a virgin that gets accidentally insemination by her boss's sperm. The ob that does it is his sister. Whole show is a satirical take on 'telenovelas'.). I'm also watching Master of None - Aziz Ansari's new show. The acting isn't relatable at all, but the messages are brilliant. There's one episode on sexism that's pretty good. The episodes also cover things like ageing, connecting with parents etc.
