what time does your nine year old go to sleep?

Postby evolve77 » Fri Apr 15, 2016 4:57 pm

hi

ok, so not everyone has a nine year old... i am wondering what sort of time they go to bed if they need to be up at 6.30 - 7am on school mornings. mine is having issues winding down and keeps getting up. we've tried lots of things and so far resisted moving her bedtime back from 7.30pm as she doesn't seem to be getting enough sleep on a regular basis due to the getting up and getting upset when we ask her to get back to bed...

thanks

In bed between 7-7.30 then reads for a while. Not longer than 1/2 an hour I'd say. He still takes ages to go to sleep then, he talks/sings/go to toilet/gets a drink of water. Can be up to 2 hours of this even when we think he's really tired and will go to sleep quickly!!

My 9 year old is supposed to be in bed at 8:30. He has to be up at 7 to get ready for school. I have issues almost every night with him because he won't sleep and is adamant he's not tired. Often he's still awake at 10pm and then he's clearly tired in the morning and trying to get him ready for school is very stressful. Another issue is that he shares a room with his 6 year old brother and prevents him from going to sleep. I don't know what the solution is. We have a bedtime routine and he doesn't get any screen time. He used to go to bed with a torch so he could read to himself but that doesn't help him to wind down.

My nearly nine year old is in bed at 7pm most nights, lights out at 7.30. He either goes right to sleep or is fretting about something and is awake until 9! He has to get up around 7.30 but is usually up sooner.

My almost 9 year old is never asleep before 9:30pm. He gets up at 8. It used to stress me out until a paediatrician friend and a developmental psych friend told me that kids that age need between 9-11 hours sleep a night. Is your son waking up feeling rested? If so, all is ok.

Normally asleep by 8-8.30 (in bed at 7-7.30) and wakes up at 5.30 - 6. Last night she was awake until 10.30 though  mostly just reading in bed but she just couldn't get to sleep. They listen to a story or relaxation CD at bedtime to try and help them switch off.

Mine is usually in bed by 10 or 10:30, and up about 8am. We leave for school t 8:30 (10 minute walk) we make it on time most days. It is hard to get him to bed earlier, because I have a house full of teenage night owls. Some nights I am the first one in bed. I am nearly always the first one up except when DS2 beats me up on the weekend, as he wakes around 8 every day of the week (except today)

My 4 yr old is usually awake until at least 10pm (even when she is dead tired.....bedtime is 7.30pm most nights...sometimes earlier....but regardless of the time she goes to bed, she is awake until really late so I dread to think what she will be like at 9!

My 9yo is medicated for sleep and still not asleep before 8:30 most nights. He doesn't cope with much later than that, but some nights he is still awake past 10.
