'Extended'

Post by strolltotheshops » Fri Dec 19, 2014 1:50 pm

There were a few possible sections I could have chosen for this, so I've popped it in 'Protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding'.

Here's an interesting article http://www.datadrivendad.com.au/car-saf ... ing-sucks/ by Data Driven Dad about rear-facing child restraints for vehicles in Australia. Leaving aside the fact that it's not typo-free, I think the idea he's getting at makes a lot of sense.

As well as being a good blog post on safely using child restraints, it reminded me of the same language issues that arise when some people talk about "extended breastfeeding" while others prefer "full term breastfeeding" or "normal term breastfeeding" or [shock], simply, "breastfeeding". This post http://evolutionaryparenting.com/the-la ... stfeeding/ touches on this issue.

And that, in turn, reminded me of language around breastfeeding generally. Some interesting thoughts I've seen on this include Karleen's "Breast is No Longer Best" presentation http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M8BjnGCNahU; Canada's Nurtured Child's "Why Formula Companies Love “Breast is Best”" http://nurturedchild.ca/index.php/2011/ ... t-is-best/; and normalfed's (Diane Wiessinger's) "scary" http://www.normalfed.com/why/scary/.

I'm just musing, really...

Extended breastfeeding - that's when the breastfeeding child tried to walk away while feeding and stretches out your nipple while doing so, right?
