I would just adjust so my singlet i was wearing allowed me to go handsfree but i wasnt able to hold Cooper at all (on ventilation) so didnt need to be handsfree.

Ill look into the Medela Sypmhony :)

Know any places to look that would be cheapest?

Have you checked with your local ABA group? If you're a member of ABA you get 50% off pump hire.

You can find your local group here

https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/contacts/groups

The contact person there should be able to give you the details of the local breast pump hire counsellor. If you'd like to know sooner, pm me with your group's name and I'll find out the info for you. Or you can call the helpline and one of the counsellors can look up the details for you.

There's a $100 deposit (refundable when pump is returned in good condition), then it's $50 hire per week for non-members, or $25 for ABA members.

Yes, Symphonies aren't cheap...

Thanks so much for that.

Thats alot better than the pink of blue deposit.

Ive just signed up as a member of ABA - may take up to a week to process so il lwait until then - then i can organise the pump :) - thanks for the offer though. Ive also just purchased the double pump set up online :D

The expressing has gone alot better today - around 6mls of milk all up from 9am. Around a week ago it was 0ml so im very happy :)
Addisons last feed tonight im going to try the SNS again - fingers crossed.

Thanks again for everyones support. This means alot to me and its good to have some people who see it the way i do.
As much as my partner supports me - hes never had the bf bond so its not quite the same.

Don't bother waiting - we're very trusting in ABA. I'm BPHO for my local group. If a mum rings and tells me she's a member, she's a member. You can call tomorrow.

Good luck :D

Great news re the pumping - hope the pump hire works out, too. :)

Oh, and in response to your question re waiting for letdown before releasing the sns tubing - like you, I didn't really 'feel' a letdown. Instead, I watched DD's signals - when she started the rhythmic suck-swallow pattern, I knew she was getting milk so then released the tubing. But, as Karleen said - do what works! I tried to make sure DD never got too frantic, because then it would all go pear-shaped.

Best of luck with the sns tonight! :)

What GM said^^

I don't feel a letdown but just watching her swallowing and when it slows down, insert the tube.

You could have the tube inserted ready to go so she's not already fussy by the time you need to put it in. Whatever works for you is the right thing to do.

Sounds like you're doin great so far!! :-D

Thanks!!

We tried the SNS last night and it didnt go well so i didnt push her.
Tried again today and it went really well.
So will be giving it another shot for her next feed.
I do believe that i have a diff model SNS to you Feather lol.
Mine doesnt get turned upside down and has this ancient huge cord to go around my neck. It sits in a bag....
Its old school - thought that may be why its a little harder.

Also - any tips on how you go about cleaning the tubing. We can do it - just seems to take alot of effort lol.

Im a little worried that my milk doesnt seem to be increasing much - all of today ive only been getting a few drops at each express.
Im still on the prescription drugs, Fenugreek and am pumping at 6am, 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm, 10pm and midnight lol. Along with putting her to breast for comfort sucking probably around 4-6 times in 24hrs.
Is it possible that it just wont come back?

I see the LC tomorrow so will let you all know how it goes.

Will also call about the double pump tomorrow - had a massive day with an eye specialist and a 2.5yo - that was fun

Oh sorry I didn't realise it wasn't an actual Medela SNS. There are only two brands out there as far as I know. I'm not sure how you're meant to clean the tubing on that one. Is there any way you could flush it with a syringe? Do a google search for cleaning methods, I'm sure there would be some somewhere.

I struggled with a homemade supply line with my first because I didn't want to spend $80ish on a SNS but in hindsight I really should have. Ease of use makes such a huge difference to the experience. If it looks like it will work for you I would consider getting one.

Hugs for you after a tough day, I can imagine the pressure you feel at the moment must be huge. We're here to listen :-)

See what the LC has to say about the medication and supplementation, she should be able to help you work that out.

Yay :D Today was great!!
Went down to Coffs Harbour to see the LC. She was amazing.
Addisons latch and suck is great - she watched her feed for 25mins (one side) and showed me how to massage my breast tissue to help her stay on longer.
Ive got the number for the lady with a Medela Symphony in Coffs and will be renting one out :)
She seen my old SNS and said its rubbish lol. I have to agree! She hooked me up to the new Medela SNS to show me how easy and comfy it was to use - ordering one today!!
She showed me more techniques on hand expressing and i got 5ml in about 5mins. So she thinks with a better pump ill get more milk out :-)

Pretty darn excited!!!

Again thanking everyone for their support!

Oh as for cleaning the tubing she said running soapy water through it then fresh water is th way to go - but again will be easier with a less fidly SNS

That's great! Glad to hear it was a positive consult :-D

I'm sure the new SNS will make things easier. In the early days I used to rinse it after a feed with really hot water and hot soapy water a few times a day then sterilise it once a day.

Yay for good days :-)

Oh that is awesome news! I'm like Esther - I have a huge :-D on my face!

And, yes, the medela sns is the one we used - quite compact and relatively easy to use. Like Feather, I'd just rinse and wash with hot soapy water; sterilise once a day; and I found it easy to force hot water through the tubing to keep that clean.
