First overnight away!

Postby Yankee » Sat Mar 29, 2014 12:03 pm

Last night was our first overnight away from DD! We went to a wedding an hour from Melbourne and she stayed with her grandparents overnight. It was the first time in over a year that I could drink as much champagne as I wanted, and it was actually so fantastic not to have the "timer" in my head (the one that goes "she fell asleep at x so I'd better stop drinking by y and leave at z so I can catch her next feed).

But man, having to pump for 24 hours sucks. It takes soooo long sitting away from the fun, it never really drained my boobs, and it was so sad to pour that precious milk down the sink! And getting up at 2:30 to express milk sucks, I'm used to being able to drowse with the baby in arms but you can't drowse with a hand pump. It was like night and day different when I finally got to feed DD this morning, in less than 10 minutes my boobs were properly drained for the first time in 24 hours!

When did you have your first night away from bub and what was it like for you?

Champagne flavoured pancake milk. ;)

I didn't have to throw it all out, I saved what I expressed before the wedding and the next morning (since I wasn't feeling hungover).

Glad it all went well!

I've actually never spent a night away from any of my 'babies' Actually, I lie. I had to spend a night away from DS1 and DD once due to needing emergency surgery. DD was 18 months and still feeding lots overnight so it was very hard :(

I had my first night away from my ds1 a week before I was due to give birth to my next baby! He was 2.5 and weaned though so no need to pump at 2:30am. Might have had a good slee apart from the pre-labour contractions that woke me up at 5:30am
