Advice on Medela cup feeding

Post by suva » Fri Nov 13, 2009 10:46 am

Hi,

I have an almost 4 month old baby who has always been exclusively breast fed. He has never taken a bottle although I have tried on one occasion with some ebm.

I would like to start expressing just for emergencies or when I have an appointment etc so hubby can feed our son. Since bubs has never had a bottle, it has been recommended to me to try cup feeding him. I thought this may also help him with the transition to solids later.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on:

(1) how to cup feed
(2) their experiences using the Medela cup feeder

Should I try using a normal cup before purchasing a cup feeder like the Medela?

Thanks for your help

I'd try a normal cup - some people find a shot glass is a good size - not too big, and easy for the adult to handle :)

This page has some information on how to cup feed: http://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/cupfeeding.html

All the best :)
DD1 breastfed 6 years, 7 months
DD2 still going at 5 years :D
