Post by Penguin » Thu Jul 23, 2015 12:17 pm

So C has decided she won't take a bottle.

Ideas?

Cold was the only way DD2 would take it.

Try a few different teats. DD2 would only take it if it just the right temp, and the right teat. In the end I gave up.

Daycare says she's had about 50ml all day.

Can they offer in a sippy cup or on a spoon? I found different teats helpful too.

Yes, cup or sippy cup? Plenty of kids go straight onto a cup when they start solids.

My DD1 wouldn't take one either.

We had an attachment to the bottle where we could insert a straw and she would drink from that; or those very basic drink cup tops that have a few holes worked for us - or often she just waited it out.

Small cup (shot glass sized) or, as a last resort, a large syringe...

Have they tried paced feeding? I also agree with both trying different temperatures (DD also preferred cold ebm) and trying a different drink container such as a sippy cup. She's probably thinking, "Who do you think you're kinding? This isn't mum!"

She's happily taken the bottle many times before, including last week at daycare.

She had some of the frozen stash at daycare at the end of the day. 170mL tipped down the drain though across the day.

Oh well. Guess I'll just send more tomorrow. It will last as long as it lasts.

I'll send bottles and a sippy cup and see what happens.

How is she looking this morning?

How long will she be there today?

If you're both ready for solids, it's not a bad option because it's wet. On the other hand, it could just be that she's snuffly and it will work out over the weekend, or that the small bottles more frequently will do the trick.

If she took 50mL she is taking a bottle. Is it just yesterday? Maybe wait a few days and have the daycare people keep trying different things - it is their job and they will have lots of tricks that won't work for you at home.

Dr said she was a little dehydrated last night but she seems fine. I couldn't face the thought of setting my alarm for feeds while also dealing with R's spewing. She work for one feed overnight (good normal). She seemed ok this morning.

I sent 8 lots of 50mL (six of them frozen) bottles and sippy cup. Hopefully she'll be ok. I won't be able to keep up if so much EBM goes down the drain but that's just how it goes.

Hopefully things will be better today. I asked daycare to keep an eye on her nappies.

She's in daycare 8-4ish Thur and Fri, and has some other days with DH (they're normally 3-4hrs).

Well, it seems she responded to her 'stern talking to' last night (lol) and drank 3x50 mL today, so that's good.
