That is interesting. I wonder if it becomes a vicious circle too - baby is harder to settle, mum is more stressed as a result... Etc.

I had such high levels of stress during my first pregnancy and was in a bad place with anxiety for at least the first year and I have always felt uneasy about the cortisol being passed onto H.

What she said!

Interesting re comparing humans and monkeys re social differences. I read a blog about a lady how had lots of kids - 9 or 10 I think. All her kids were fairly close together - less than two year. They didn't use contraception and so just had kids as they arrived. She said all her babies self weaned while she was pregnant with the next one, but the later babies (number 6 and on I think?) all weaned later into the pregnancy. She hypothesised that it was because by that time she had older kids who could attend to urgent needs of the toddlers so she had to put the baby down mid-feed less often, so the later babies got more uninterrupted feeds than number 2 - 5 babies. Obviously not a controlled experiment, but interesting.
