As a researcher and a breastfeeding counsellor I am really conflicted about this. A research centre focused on breastfeeding is an exciting idea. The use of a neologism (new word) "lactology" makes me a little suspicious ... makes me suspect the supported research is not going to be about breastfeeding so much as the mechanics of milk synthesis and extraction. My naturally suspicious mind led me to further investigation. The foundation that funds it owns Medela. Medela is a Code Violator. Advertising infant feeding bottles and teats to the general public, is a violation of the International Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes because it undermines breastfeeding culture. So, I am less excited than I might have been.

I did wonder when there was another article recently that mentioned the Swiss company. There aren't that many Swiss companies I'm aware of with an interest in breastfeeding...

Yeah there's useful research that comes from the Nestle Research Center too but there's an agenda that underlies their work as there no doubt will be in this case also. Sadly.
Another one of their projects is a textbook. I was asked to write a chapter. I have declined to do so. Methinks they may be finding it difficult to get authors for the book and participants for their other projects as the Foundation website has removed all mention of the parent company from their description.
