The other day I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to help an elderly gent who got stuck on his mobility scooter trying to go up a slight incline of loose gravel. Like a pp it wasn't any trouble at all to me and I felt great knowing I'd been able to help somebody who was stu...

I'm with nightowl on this one. I think that the idea of punishments is a bit old school and may not be working out the best because it sets up a bit of a power struggle. In a way it reminds me of my 8 year old so I am in teh same boat with not a lot of solutions but the thing that comes to mind for ...

I've also been a giving away stuff person too. I feel like for the time I'd spend trying to sell things it is sometimes easier to just give them away. Op shops and select things to friends.

yes. She was a totally planned baby - the only one really! and so I knew I was pregnant from the beginning and had 12 weeks of being pregnant to talk about our coming baby. However it wasn't that we named her while pregnant, moreso that I knew the name I wanted and then I felt it would help me to gi...

that was me too. got mistaken for 18 a lot by the end of grade 7 - wasn't a good thing for me in terms of legal drinking age stuff..... I think if people don't have their own teenager they can be fooled easily by young teens but I think there is still some young sort of innocence in her face to sugg...

I think you did a great job in handling it and teaching her a lesson about empathy for other's feelings.

I only wish my family was that together. my kids whack into each other all the time and I'm exhausted by trying to deal with it.......

You are doing a great job.

yes, that makes sense eb. I guess rape is about power over others and using the word for its power and chock value makes sense to me from a teenager point of view that it is an age where you want 'adult' power, but you aren't quite there yet. Maybe that is why this sort of shocking language appeals ...

I'm siding with Mira on this one, but I can also feel the horror of the other posters. As a parent of a teenager I am aghast sometimes at the way they talk on facebook. I talk with my kid about it just to check in with what her values are becuase the way she uses language scares me . Heaps of pimps,...
